Seth and I have talked about we’d have ducks one day since we were in high school and that turned into reality in April of 2021! We purchased six Ancona (An-cone-a) ducklings to raise for eggs and were surprised when eight arrived and have all survived giving us quite the flock of quirky quackers!
The ducklings arrived April 15, 2021! We kept them under heat until they feathered out about six weeks later.
Benny helped us mark and name each duckling! Bertha, Genevieve, Pearl, Betty Lou, Olive, Ruth, Ethel, & Gertie Sue!
Eli loved the ducklings from day one! He even copies their quacking and one of his first words was “Duck!”
The girls were finally big enough to move from the shop to their new home. We all were happy about the transition! Speaking of transition, you can see how they’ve turned from yellow down to white feathers!Bertha is a fan favorite, but the ducks tend to avoid people unless we’re quick enough to catch them or if you have a treat! Ethel is very much the leader of the group, but Gertie Sue will get closest to people when they’re patient. The girls are full grown and we expect our first eggs around October!
